Approximately one in three adults and as many as half of all Black adults in the United States has some form of a criminal record. For many, even those who have minor convictions or only an arrest record, this reality presents huge barriers to employment. These barriers can persist long after an individual has paid their debt to society, and disproportionately hold back people of color and other marginalized communities from advancement.
The business community can help to both dismantle these barriers and advance policies that allow individuals to contribute to their communities – both economically and socially. These efforts are necessary to build a competitive workforce and reduce cycles of poverty and unemployment. They’re also necessary to building a more equitable workplace and society.
On July 25, join B Lab and the Responsible Business Initiative for Justice (RBIJ) for a public conversation on the role for businesses to create a more just and equitable society through hiring practices and advancing policy initiatives.
