RBIJ Welcomes Two New Executives from Microsoft and Iceland Foods to Advisory Council

Washington, D.C., Sept. 20, 2024 — The Responsible Business Initiative for Justice (RBIJ) announces the addition of two leaders in justice system reform and workforce inclusion to its Advisory Council.

Paul Cowley MBE is the Director of Rehabilitation for Iceland Foods, one of the leading food retailers in the U.K., and helps those coming out of prison secure employment and restoration. As the founder of the charity “Caring for Ex-Offenders" (CFEO), which has helped over 2,000 men and women reintegrate back into society, his history of service will empower RBIJ’s second chance hiring efforts.

“Having worked in the U.K. justice system for 27 years, I’m honoured and excited to be asked to join the RBIJ Advisory Council,” says Cowley. The work they do is of vital importance to thousands of people held in our prisons around the world and for the many innocent victims of crimes.”

Beth Henderson is Assistant General Counsel – Pro Bono Director at Microsoft in Redmond, Washington. In this role, she manages the strategy, budget, and operations of Microsoft’s pro bono program on a full-time basis. Her work includes developing and promoting diverse pro bono opportunities globally, overseeing the program’s internal and external communications, and leading projects to facilitate and optimize the practice of pro bono. She also serves on the board of Kids In Need of Defense (KIND). Before joining Microsoft, Beth practiced immigration law in Philadelphia.

“I’m delighted to join RBIJ’s Advisory Council,” says Henderson. “At Microsoft, we are committed to using our platform and resources to ensure more individuals have equal access to opportunities to thrive - goals that are clearly shared by RBIJ in their work with the business community.”

“We are excited to welcome Paul Cowley MBE and Beth Henderson to RBIJ’s Advisory Council,” says CEO Maha Jweied. “Their decades of experience fighting for equity and fairness in our systems of justice will offer valuable insights to inform and strengthen RBIJ’s activities. Together, we will continue championing business and policy solutions that promote public safety, deliver justice, and strengthen communities.”

Cowley and Henderson join current RBIJ Advisory Council members Conroy Boxhill, Dr. Marvin D. Carr, Michelle Cirocco, Caitlin Heising, Ken Oliver, Ashish Prashar, Keilon Ratliff, Dr. Topeka K. Sam, and Jo-Anne Wallace. More information about the RBIJ Advisory Council can be found at rbij.org/directors-advisors
